This past Saturday was the big day!  The day we'd all been working towards.  The day when our masks came to life!  In our last session my little mask makers donned their creations and discovered the wonderful characters they themselves created out of little more than paper, paint and glue.

We started out with some basic exercises to get our imaginations running and our bodies warmed up.  After a few games of tag and freeze we were ready to put on the masks and look in the mirror.  Suddenly, these colourful masks were alive!  The kids learned how the mask informed their movements and  I must admit, they were all naturals.  We met a fox, a wolf, a munchkin and a mysterious stranger.

All in all we had a great time.  It's always a lot of fun for me to see a great idea turn into a great mask, and then have that mask come to life in front of my eyes.  These young artists came up with the idea for their masks, constructed them, painted them, and then performed in them.  This is a huge undertaking and these kids took it in stride.  I was proud to see their hard work pay off and think that they took the pride of a job well done away from the workshop.  They learned that play can be hard work, but hard work can be fun!  I can't wait to do it all again!

Great to see the masks evolve in just four sessions. No crayon colour by numbers here! Good fun and makes all aware the detail and talent that goes into a production they see on stage, film, etc. Sadly, so little time now is allowed in school for the arts to let children to be so creative (and messy!) Congratulations to all.

Looks like everyone had great imaginations and brougth their characters to life. Congratulations! What a great experience for them; the kids will probably want to continue being creative.
